We’ve finally reached the mid-point of the semester, so you know what that means… SPRING BREAK!
Many people are headed to the beach, setting sail on cruises, dusting off their passports to explore different countries; and then some people are lacking plans, which is totally fine. There are plenty of ways to still enjoy this time off and take full advantage of your b r e a k.
Here, we have compiled a list of cool things to do over the break for those who may or may not find themselves on an exotic terrain for the next 7 days. For those of you who will be spending your time off here in Tallahassee, we have even included recommendations from your wonderful LTA’s.
1. Visit a museum. Museums are always a cool way to learn new information. They’re interactive, full of cool artifacts, and typically an inexpensive option.
LTA Recommendations: Tallahassee Museum
2. Listen to a new podcast. Podcasts are super popular right now! It a cool way to listen to other’s opinions on topics that you may find interesting. Not to mention, they don’t require much thought or work. You can listen to them while cooking, driving, walking the dog… pretty much at any time.
LTA Recommendations: Small Doses with Amanda Seales, Ted Talks, Hidden Brain
3. Watch an interesting documentary. Documentaries allow you to go deeper and get tons of background information on people, places, or events that you may or may not be familiar with. Many streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu have a wide variety of documentaries available that would appeal to anyone. So, check them out! Who knows, you might learn something!
LTA Recommendations: Icarus, Chefs Table
4. Go outside. It’s spring! It’s pretty! Go be one with nature. Go for a hike, have lunch at a park, walk around your neighborhood a few times… honestly, the possibilities are endless. Explore and have fun!
5. Learn a craft. Get on Pinterest and make a stop at Michael’s… BOOM, you’ve got a new hobby. It’s a fun way to spend your time and you may even be able to sell some of your new creations on Etsy!
6. Go see a movie. Let’s be honest, is watching a movie ever a bad idea? I think not. Whether it’s going to an actual theater or simply making a new selection on Netflix; movies are always a good idea! Pick a day and time to sit back, and just enjoy yourself. Invite a friend… or not, the choice is yours! The great part about movies is that you get to completely zone out and transport to another world.
LTA Recommendations: Captain Marvel, Gone Girl (Netflix), Umbrella Academy (Netflix)
7. Read a book. Not a text book, one that you actually enjoy.
LTA Recommendations: Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, Becoming by Michelle Obama
8. Try new foods. Explore different restaurants, try out new recipes, pick out different snack at the grocery… anything! Just go for it!
9. Review class notes. I know, I know school is probably the absolute last thing on your mind. That’s fine. But it never hurts to stay on top of your course work. No need to crank out an entire project over the break, but you can take a moment to look over past assignments just so that you’re not completely thrown off once classes start back up.
10. RELAX! After all, it is SPRING BREAK. Relax! Relate! Release! Enjoy this time off however you see fit!
