You can see the finish line, yet it&#8217;s still extremely far away. It&#8217;s okay&#8230; we&#8217;re <em>almost<\/em> there! But in the meantime, here are some tips for both you and your students in dealing with this stressful time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What is Academic Stress?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fear of failing. Choosing and\/or changing your major. Managing your workload. Implementing effective time and task management. Balancing your social and academic lives. Meeting expectations. Competing with classmates. Participating i class. Tests. Papers. Public speaking. Grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>What Can You Do to Fight It?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Study &amp; Work Efficiently and Effectively<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> Work&nbsp;when&nbsp;you&nbsp;are&nbsp;most&nbsp;productive (morning, noon, or night?)<\/li><li>Remove yourself&nbsp;from&nbsp;distractions. <ul><li>Study away from your phone, computer, etc&#8230;<\/li><li>Go&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;library&nbsp;or&nbsp;some&nbsp;quiet,&nbsp;secluded&nbsp; space&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Listen&nbsp;to&nbsp;music&nbsp;or&nbsp;work&nbsp;with&nbsp;friends&nbsp;if&nbsp;your&nbsp;task does&nbsp;not&nbsp;require&nbsp;100%&nbsp;concentration.&nbsp; <\/li><li>Work&nbsp;and&nbsp;study&nbsp;in&nbsp;a&nbsp;comfortable&nbsp;environment <\/li><li>Make&nbsp;class time more productive&nbsp;now&nbsp;to&nbsp;save yourself time&nbsp;and&nbsp;energy&nbsp;later.&nbsp;<ul><li>Don\u2019t&nbsp;skip&nbsp;class!&nbsp; <\/li><li>Pay&nbsp;close&nbsp;attention&nbsp;and&nbsp;participate.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/li><li>Take&nbsp;detailed&nbsp;notes.&nbsp; <\/li><li>Ask&nbsp;questions&nbsp;immediately&nbsp;if&nbsp;you&nbsp;are&nbsp; unclear&nbsp;about&nbsp;something.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Plan Ahead<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> Write&nbsp;all due&nbsp;dates&nbsp;and&nbsp;exams&nbsp;on&nbsp;a&nbsp;large&nbsp;calendar and check it often&nbsp; <ul><li>Don\u2019t&nbsp;let&nbsp;assignments&nbsp;sneak&nbsp;up&nbsp;on&nbsp;you!&nbsp;<\/li><li>Write&nbsp;on&nbsp;the&nbsp;calendar&nbsp;when&nbsp;you&nbsp;hope&nbsp;to&nbsp; begin&nbsp;an&nbsp;assignment&nbsp;and&nbsp;not&nbsp;just&nbsp;when&nbsp;it&#8217;s due<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Start&nbsp;assignments early<ul><li>Don\u2019t&nbsp;rely&nbsp;on&nbsp;cramming,&nbsp;it&nbsp;only&nbsp;increases&nbsp; anxiety&nbsp;and&nbsp;causes&nbsp;confusion.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Break&nbsp;large&nbsp;assignments&nbsp;into&nbsp;smaller,&nbsp;more&nbsp; manageable&nbsp;pieces.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Stick&nbsp;to&nbsp;your&nbsp;plan&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;try&nbsp;not&nbsp;to&nbsp;break&nbsp;your&nbsp;study&nbsp; sessions&nbsp;for&nbsp;impromptu&nbsp;social&nbsp;events.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Set Realistic Goals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> Realize&nbsp;your&nbsp;limitations&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;everyone&nbsp;has&nbsp;strengths&nbsp; and&nbsp;weakness,&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;expect&nbsp;to&nbsp;be&nbsp;perfect&nbsp;every&nbsp; time.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Set&nbsp;modest,&nbsp;attainable&nbsp;goals&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;not&nbsp;meeting&nbsp;large&nbsp; and&nbsp;overwhelming&nbsp;goals&nbsp;only&nbsp;causes&nbsp;more&nbsp;stress<\/li><li>Do&nbsp;the&nbsp;very&nbsp;best&nbsp;you&nbsp;can&nbsp;within&nbsp;your&nbsp;limits&nbsp;and&nbsp; accept&nbsp;the&nbsp;outcome.&nbsp; <\/li><li>Avoid&nbsp;procrastination.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Take Care of Yourself!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> Reward&nbsp;hard&nbsp;work&nbsp;with&nbsp;breaks&nbsp;and&nbsp;treats&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;keep&nbsp; yourself&nbsp;motivated!&nbsp; <\/li><li>Don\u2019t&nbsp;take&nbsp;on&nbsp;more&nbsp;than&nbsp;you&nbsp;can&nbsp;handle &#8211; it&#8217;s okay to say no <\/li><li>to extracurricular events or friends sometimes<\/li><li> Schedule&nbsp;time&nbsp;for&nbsp;recreation&nbsp;and&nbsp;relaxation&nbsp;<\/li><li>Eat&nbsp;right,&nbsp;exercise&nbsp;regularly,&nbsp;get&nbsp;plenty&nbsp;of&nbsp;SLEEP.&nbsp; <\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re a little over halfway through the semester so things are starting to get tense.
